Roderick, who has been a UAA staff member since 2006, is the director of the Difficult Dialogues Initiative and associate director of the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence. Roderick received the award Wednesday during the Foundation's board meeting in Fairbanks.

    Gavin Migratory Bird Research Grant Applications Due by December 12

    Scientists within the University of èƵ system, including graduate students and faculty members, are eligible to apply for the Angus Gavin Memorial Migratory Bird Research Grant that is now open for 2023 field season proposals. The application deadline is December 12, 2022. There are two $15,000 awards available.

    A major, long-time supporter of the University of èƵ system, Northrim Bank, has gifted $259,500 to fund UA initiatives that advance research about èƵ's economy and fiscal policy, expand business education and build entrepreneurship capacity. Northrim's donation also includes funding to five community campuses where Northrim employees live and work.

    The University of èƵ System's $200 million fundraising goal is within reach, according to a report shared with the University of èƵ Foundation Board of Directors at its March 2 meeting in Juneau. As of December 2021, more than $175 million in private donations have been contributed by alumni, friends, companies, and private organizations, including 35 gifts of $1 million or more.

    Grace Berg Schaible, a former èƵ attorney general and one of the University of èƵ’s greatest benefactors, established the fellowship for graduate students whose principal course of study is in subjects taught or researched at the Geophysical Institute. Schaible died in 2017, but the fellowship’s endowment received a $2.2 million gift from her estate in 2018, providing enough of a financial base so that planning for the awarding of fellowships could begin.

    The University of èƵ Anchorage (UAA) announced today it received the largest estate gift in the èƵ’s history from the late Caroline “Carrie” E.B. Lewis. A longtime èƵ supporter, Lewis passed away on Nov. 10, 2020, at age 90. Her gift, valued at approximately $15 million, will support two endowments that build educational opportunities for first-generation college students and foster student success initiatives at UAA.
