Video update on budget and èßäÊÓÆµ structure

Dear UA Community, In this Monday video update, President Johnsen discusses the FY2020 capital budget, which restores èßäÊÓÆµ Performance Scholarship, WWAMI and èßäÊÓÆµ Education Grant funding, as well as capital funding for deferred maintenance, and support for the èßäÊÓÆµ Earthquake Center. In addition, a supplemental operating budget, which restores $110 million in state funds, is being transmitted to the Governor this week. Johnsen met with Gov. Dunleavy and his new Chief of Staff Ben Stevens last Friday and continues to advocate for the èßäÊÓÆµ's state funding.

House passes Capital Budget, restores scholarship funding

After two previous attempts, the House passed important revisions to the FY20 Capital Budget on July 29. The legislation, Senate Bill 2002, was dubbed by lawmakers as "Capital Budget 2.0." It authorizes the use of the Constitutional Budget Reserve (CBR), and reverses the fiscal year-end "sweep" of state designated funds, which left a number of critically important programs around the state unfunded. This required a ¾ super majority vote in both the House and Senate, and was an important compromise for this Legislature.

President Johnsen speaks at major business forum in Anchorage

University of èßäÊÓÆµ President Jim Johnsen spoke to 1500 Anchorage business and community leaders about the contributions that the èßäÊÓÆµ makes to the state's economy through research and workforce development, and the critical need for èßäÊÓÆµ to maintain a strong higher education system. His remarks were part of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) Three-Year Outlook Luncheon.

Planned power outage will disrupt data services
August 02, 2019
On Saturday, Aug. 3, UAF Facilities Services will shut down power to the Butrovich Building and Data Center. As a result all UA data systems will be offline for up to 10 hours starting at 2 a.m.

Regents direct èßäÊÓÆµ administration to consolidate, seek single accreditation

The University of èßäÊÓÆµ Board of Regents took a step today toward consolidation of the èßäÊÓÆµ system into one accredited University of èßäÊÓÆµ. By a vote of 8-3, regents made their decision for providing the best way to serve èßäÊÓÆµ's students in the face of a severe reduction in state funding.

Regents declare financial exigency; consider structural options
July 22, 2019
Dear UA Community, Today, on a vote of 10-1, the Board of Regents approved a declaration of financial exigency for the èßäÊÓÆµ. This difficult decision is a direct result of a massive $136 million (41%) reduction in state funding, projected additional losses from declining enrollment and reduced research activity, and the lack of sufficient reserves to fund our current operations through the year.
