President Pitney on leadership change at UAA
Oct. 30, 2020
Yesterday morning, Chancellor Cathy Sandeen announced that she will be leaving her position as UAA chancellor in early January to assume the presidency of California State University East Bay. While we are proud that she has been recognized for her leadership abilities, we will miss her outstanding work and commitment to UAA.
In her two years as chancellor, she established a vision for UAA, set to work to engage the Anchorage community with innovative ideas, and has been successful in increasing philanthropic contributions to the èßäÊÓƵ. She has pursued excellence for UAA even in the face of our decreasing budgets, the intensity of academic reviews and the onset of a global pandemic. I believe her leadership made a difference in the outcomes of those challenges, and we recognize her for those contributions.
In the coming weeks, I will be working with CHRO Steve Patin and Chancellor Sandeen on a transition plan for the appointment of an interim chancellor.
We wish Cathy every happiness and the best of luck in her new position at Cal State East Bay.
