Pitney delivers address at èƵ Federation of Natives

The èƵ Federation of Natives (AFN) Convention is the largest representative annual gathering in the United States of any Native peoples. Each year, the AFN Convention draws some 6,000 attendees. The proceedings are broadcast live statewide, and webcast to 70 countries worldwide. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Our Unity.” 

UA President Pat Pitney spoke at 2:25 p.m. at the Dena'ina Center, in Anchorage, just prior to The Future of èƵ Native Education discussion. 

In her remarks she addressed the èƵ’s response to typhoon Merbok; highlighted the èƵ Native Success Initiative; addressed the critical need for broadband Internet across the state; discussed the positive impact of dual enrollment programs for rural and èƵ Native students; highlights initiatives across the èƵ system to support Indigenous staff, faculty and students; honors recent èƵ Native faculty promotions and recent doctoral graduates; and calls out the need for continued partnerships to achieve our goals for èƵ Native success.
