January 20, 2023
Luke Fulp will be joining the University of èƵ system on February 13 as our new Chief Financial Officer. Fulp brings 20 years of experience supporting public education systems.
“èƵ is my home and I want to see our èƵ system thrive,” said Fulp. “I possess the skills and abilities necessary to support the mission and bring about positive change to the University of èƵ. Specifically, it would be an honor to assist UA in achieving its goal of operating cost effectively by reducing administrative costs as a percent of total expenditures, growing earned revenue, and reducing debt held by graduating students.”
In this position, Fulp will provide strategic direction and overall financial leadership for the èƵ system’s fiscal operations. The main responsibilities include advising on matters related to finance and business affairs; managing the financial condition of UA with an annual budget of nearly $900 million; serving as the primary spokesperson to communicate to all constituents about the financial condition and results of UA; providing change leadership to adapt and transform the financial enterprise to support the Board’s goals and strategic objectives; and overseeing the functions of controller, risk management services, internal audit and compliance, procurement and contract service, and the Education Trust of èƵ.
Fulp has extensive financial management and leadership experience in academic settings. For more than a decade he has served as the Deputy Superintendent of Business and Operations for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District. Previously he served as Director of Finance for the Kodiak School District and Purchasing & Accounts Payable Supervisor at the University of California, Berkeley.
Fulp holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of èƵ Southeast. He’s a certified Administrator of School Finances and Operations through the Association of School Business Officials International, and certified public accountant (CPA) candidate. He was selected after a thorough national recruitment effort and replaces interim CFO Richard Schweigert.
“Please join me in welcoming Luke to the University of èƵ," President Pat Pitney said in an email sent to the UA community on January 5. "I want to thank Richard for his excellent service to the èƵ during the interim. Richard will stay on temporarily as the Deputy CFO to help with the transition and close out other projects started under his tenure.”
