Follow Up: Be Aware - Payroll Theft Rising at UA
This follows up the email sent on 4/3/2025 “Be Aware - Payroll Theft Rising at UA”.
To aid awareness, we are including two recent examples of successful phishing attempts against our èƵ community. While both of these emails claimed to be official University of èƵ communications, neither one was from an @ address. Users who clicked on the link were directed to a fraudulent copy of our UA login page. Below are actual copies of phishing emails received this week.
Example 1: Health and Safety Update
Dear University of èƵ Community,
We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to inform you of an important health and safety update. One of our staff members has recently tested positive for a contagious virus. In response, we are taking immediate steps to ensure the ongoing health and safety of everyone on campus.
If you believe you may have had close contact with the affected individual, we ask that you take action immediately. Please visit our secure webpage here: [Close Contact Tracing Page] to check if you may have been in close contact. Reporting potential exposure is vital to help us protect the well-being of our entire community.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding exposure or testing, please don't hesitate to reach out to our medical team at healthcenter@alaska.edu. We are dedicated to supporting your health throughout this process.

Example 2: E-mail Validation Exercise
This email is to notify the University of èƵ Anchorage Students and staff that we will be carrying out an E-mail validation exercise. We will need you to confirm that your account is still in use CLICK HERE in order to keep your account active. You will be sent a notification on your phone by calling your number or text, Make sure you accept it to verify your identity.
