The Presidential Medallion
Among the world's universities, for many hundreds of years a medallion or chain of
office has been a part of the academic regalia of the chief administrative officer.
In 1967, on the occasion of the inauguration of its fifth president, the University
of èßäÊÓƵ joined that tradition.
The Presidential Medallion of the University of èßäÊÓƵ, worn the first time by President Robert W. Hiatt, was a gift from the University of èßäÊÓƵ Alumni Association. Its design is based upon the University of èßäÊÓƵ seal. The medallion was designed
and wrought in sterling silver by noted silversmith Glen C. Simpson, associate professor
of art.
